Minnesota Loses 5000 Jobs in January
State employers eliminated 5,000 jobs in Minnesota in January, however, the unemployment rate is holding steady.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development released job numbers Thursday.
According to DEED, the unemployment rate in Minnesota held steady at 3.7 percent in January, coming in under the national unemployment rate of 4.9 percent.
Of the 5,000 jobs lost, 3,800 were in the government sector.
Over the past year, Minnesota has gained 39,916 jobs, a growth of 1.4 percent.
The national growth rate over the last year was 1.9 percent.
Education and health services, construction and the leisure and hospitality industries all gained jobs in January.
Sectors that lost jobs over the last year include logging and mining, information and manufacturing.
