Lake Superior Zoo Plans Approved

Dog Parks Eligible for Funding

The Duluth Parks and Recreation Commission approved plans for the Lake Superior Zoo.

The plans for the zoo have been whittled down to a final plan and according to the Zoological Society it really hasn’t changed too dramatically.

The lynx exhibit has moved, some play structures were removed to stay within the budget, and slight additions were made to the main building to integrate a two-story play area.

These changes were made following a good amount of public input and the society is only looking forward from here.

“We’re trying to get some funding through a bonding session at the legislature so this means a lot to us to get that approval and get that support, so we can move down and try to move with our legislature to try to get some financing as well,” Diana Dodge, President of the Lake Superior Zoological Society, tells us.

The plan now goes before the Duluth City Council Monday.

At the parks meeting it was also announced that Duluth dog parks now have the opportunity to be eligible for city funding.

Before this dog parks ran on donations.

Dog parks will now go through the usual process other city amenities do to receive funding.
