Robots Take Over the DECC

Teams from around the world come to Duluth with their robots for competition.

Robots have taken over the DECC, but not the world just yet. They’re here for the Northern Lighs and Lake Superior Regional Robotics competition.

Hundreds of kids from across the area and even Australia will put their minds and skills to the test.

Each high school team worked on their robot for six weeks.

The robot has to cross a number of barriers and obstacles before moving onto the next round.

For many of the students, they’re taking what they learn in the classroom to a competitive field.

“I don’t think I would’ve ever learned this much by just being in school because I get to do so much more. I think anyone who’s interested in science but maybe doesn’t want to feel like they’re in the environment where you have to do sports or something, this is the place for it,” said Ethan Dohm-Palmer, a member of the Cobalt Catalysts team.

Winners crowned on Saturday have the possibility of going to the national competition in St. Louis.
