Local Political Expert Reacts to Trump’s First Month
Some of President's Policies Have Been Controversial, But Professor Believes They Fall in Line with Campaign Promises
DULUTH, Minn. – Donald Trump has been president for almost a month now, and there has been a lot of analysis about how his presidency has gone so far.
Political experts, like UMD Political Science Professor Cindy Rugeley, have followed the President’s first month closely.
She points out that even though many of President Trump’s policies have been controversial, they mostly fall in line with promises he made during his campaign.
“A lot of what he’s controversial for is style, not necessarily what he’s been doing. Again, he said if he was elected, he was going to put in place what he called extreme vetting,” says Rugeley. “But again, he said he was going to do it so it shouldn’t come to any surprise that he did.”
Rugeley believes time will tell whether Trump’s governing style will begin to wear on people as his presidency continues.
