One Arrested Following Stand-off in Beltrami County
One person was arrested after a six hour long standoff with police in Beltrami County on Wednesday.
The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls for help around 4:00 Wednesday night from a home in the 800 block of Archery Road Northwest. The 911 caller reported a domestic disturbance involving shots being fired by the homeowner.
Initial reports to police indicated there was a struggle over the gun and there were still two people inside of the home at the time of the shooting.
When authorities arrived, they evacuated the family members from the home.
The homeowner, a 56-year-old man, was still inside, armed with a 9MM pistol and had access to other firearms. Family members told police he was distraught and extremely intoxicated.
Police heard shots fired from within the home as they set up a perimeter.
Officers attempted negotiations with the homeowner for a lengthy period of time before they broke down due to the homeowner becoming more incoherent.
At this time, the SWAT team was able to determine his location inside of the home and could see the gun. They gained entry into the house without the man knowing and took him into custody.
The man is being held at Beltrami County Jail pending charges.
