Reward Increased for Information on Death of 3 Wolves near Floodwood

The Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for killing three wolves near Floodwood.

The reward is in addition to the $2,500 offered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the frozen carcasses were discovered January 22 in a ditch along Minnesota Highway 8 near Floodwood.

The wolves appeared to have snare marks on their necks, and evidence indicates they may have been killed elsewhere and dumped the night before they were found.

Gray wolves are on the endangered list and it’s illegal to kill them in Minnesota, except in self-defense.  Otherwise it’s punishable by up to six months in jail and a $25,000 fine.

The case is under investigation by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Minnesota DNR.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Department of Natural Resources Turn in Poachers TIP line at 1-800-652-9093.
