Honored Duluth Police Officer to Retire at End of Week
Retiring Officer Said Retirement is "Bittersweet"
DULUTH, Minn.-Lieutenant Brad Wick of the Duluth Police Department received quite a send off today, as friends and family wished him well.
Wick’s day of employment with the department is at the end of the week, after working there for 31 years. Wick had a decorated career, receiving praise nationally for his work.
In 2015 he received the Medal of Valor by former Vice President Joe Biden. Wick was given the award after being ambushed by gunfire in 2011 after being in pursuit of two robbers.
The two suspects then went into a resident’s home, who was shot in the leg by a bullet. Wick then fatally shot one of the robbers after they opened fire on him.
Today Wick had mixed emotions about retirement.
“It’s a little bittersweet for me,” he said. “I really enjoyed my career here for the last 31 years. I wouldn’t change any part of it. It’s been outstanding and I’ve enjoyed working for the city of Duluth, for the police department.”
Wick would not say what his plans are for retirement yet.
