Activists Promote Equality Through Art and Music

Artists and Activists Showcased their Work in the Kirby Ballroom at UMD

DULUTH, Minn.- Artists and Activists are promoting social change through paintings, photography, sculpture, and music in the Kirby Ballroom at UMD.

An Open house for the Arts for Activism event showcased artwork that promotes environmentalism, marriage and gender equality, and racial equity.  Organizers believe art can be an effective tool to make others think and communicating ideas.

“Even before language, art was a way we communicated with each other. Now what we’re seeing is it can also be used to send a message,” said Azrin Awal, an Organizer.

The event also included live music and poetry readings promoting activism.
