The Ontario-Minnesota Group Has Been Working for 10 Years
DULUTH, Minn.- The Heart of the Continent, a cross border partnership is made up of land managers and local stakeholders working to protect public lands, promote tourism, and create economic stability for surrounding communities.
The group kicked off a two day meeting Thursday, to discuss important topics like the recreational opportunities available on public lands, and how public lands can benefit local communities and economies.
“We’re really lucky to have interconnected public lands on both sides of the border and if we can talk together and maintain open channels of communication to manage the land together, The ecological values we care about are that much better for it,” said Trevor Gidd, the Park Superintendent at Quetico Provintial Park.
The events continue on Friday and will take place at the Superior National Forest Headquarters at 8901 Grand Avenue place.
The Ontario-Minnesota group has been working together for more than ten years, and includes State, Provincial and National parks, and communities and agencies extending from Thunder Bay to Duluth and International falls.
