Two Feet of Snow Covers Ironwood, Hurley

Residents Begin To Dig Out

With snow coming over the last few days, residents in Ironwood, Mich., and Hurley, Wis., are pulling out all the stops.

“Snowshoes, a shovel, and a big snowblower,” said Stephanie Moore, and Ironwood resident.

For Moore, the white stuff has been more than enough.

“For somebody who loves to snow blow, it’s good. I like it but it can start going away any time soon,” said Moore.

The area saw as much as 32 inches of snow over the last three days.

“It seems like once it started within 24 hours we had a lot,” Moore said.

They’re bracing even more. “This is normal,” said Moore.

At Giovanoni’s True Value Hardware in Hurley, customers were stopping in to ask for help in finding the right snowblower and shovels.

They’ve had snowblowers since August, but have sold 25 in the last week and they nearly sold out of shovels and roof rakes.

“Some of each. Some are already ready but some wait till the big storm hits and they panic,” said Greg Loreti, the store’s general manager.

The DMV in Hurley also said they were urging drivers to be careful around the plowed snow and to be sure to look around the corners carefully.

The area could see even another foot of snow in the next week.
