Roses Rising in the Rose Garden

The Roses Have Been Buried All Winter

DULUTH, Minn.- Volunteers and park maintenance worked Saturday to uncover the flowers at the Leif Erickson Park rose garden.

The roses were buried in the ground using the Minnesota Rose tip method for many months, to protect them from the harsh conditions of a Northland winter. Now that Spring is here, the flowers are ready to come out and bloom.

“we bring them up in the spring, and spray them down after they’ve been brought up, twine removed, spray them down, water them, give them a good soak and then let them start to grow,” said Margaret Anderson, a member of the Lake Superior Rose Society.

About 2,000 to 2,400 roses are at the garden.
