Church Invites Superior Police to Lunch

Members Wanted to Show Appreciation During National Police Week

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Members of a Superior church. did something nice Tuesday for the men and women who protect and serve them as part of National Police Week.

A group from the Central Assembly of God showed their appreciation to police, by inviting the entire department to lunch at the church.

Close to 25 volunteers worked since January, raising money and getting donations from local businesses.  The organizer, Rose Ligman, wanted to do something nice for what she calls an under–appreciated profession.

“We do appreciate them, they do put their lives at risk all the time,” said Ligman.  “How thankful, really are we?  Today is a day to say thank you, we appreciate you, we honor you and we honor your service that you do.”

A number of officers, including Chief Nick Alexander, took the church up on the lunch.  The consensus among police was that while they don’t do what they to for thanks, the do appreciate when the community shows their appreciation.

“Nobody made us do this profession, we do it because we have a passion for it and enjoy it,” said Patrol Captain John Kiel.  “Having said that, we are super thankful we get this opportunity to come and meet the public.”

This was the first time the church invited officers to lunch for National Police Week, but organizers say it could become an annual event.
