Cyclists Get Free Bus Rides for National Bike to Work Day

Organizations Have Been Calling for People to Use Public Transportation This Whole Month

DULUTH, Minn.- Friday is National Bike to Work day, and The Duluth Transit Authority is encouraging people to use public transportation. The DTA is sweetening the pot by offering free bus rides to passengers who get on the bus with their bikes. Representatives believe biking or riding the bus to work is good for the environment, good for physical health, and can even help people save money.

“The American Public Transit Association they issue a monthly transit savings report, if you just commute to work on the bus, 5 days a week, we’re not telling you to get rid of your vehicle but if you commute just 5 days of the week, you can save 9 to 10 thousand dollars a year,” said Heath Hickok, the Director of Marketing for the DTA.

All DTA buses are equipped with bike racks that can hold up to 2 bikes.
