Proposed Rule Would Require Landlords to Pave Backyard Parking Spaces
The Ordinance Won't Be Ready For a Vote Until June
DULUTH, Minn.- A proposal for changes in Duluth’s parking requirements for home owners and landlords will be considered by the city council.
The proposed rules would require property owners with gravel parking lots in their backyards to pave the parking space instead. The proposal was made after city staff noticed and received complaints that some of the gravel is running off into city storm drains. City councilors will discuss the ordinance at a committee of the whole meeting tonight.
“I’m always concerned with creating a new rule that everyone must follow unless it’s demonstrated that there’s a real need for that kind of rule, a rule like this would be a cost to home owners and land lords,” said Joel Sipress, Council President for the Duluth city Council.
The earliest day the Ordinance could be ready for a vote, would be at the first council meeting in June.
