Jay Cooke State Park Offers Programs to Connect People With Nature

Kids Had the Chance to Learn About Monarch Butterflies on Saturday

CARLTON, Minn.- Kids and families learned about Monarch Butterflies at Jay Cooke State Park, Saturday.

Minnesota State Parks host events to help connect visitors to the natural wonders the parks have to offer. Many events were held at Jay Cooke State Park today, including an educational class about Monarch butterflies. Attendees learned about the state butterfly, its habitat, and life cycles. Then children had the chance to create crafts of the butterfly.

“It’s important to give a background of conservation and natural knowledge to our future conservationists, they’re going to grow up and maybe be in these types of outdoor fields, and also be stewards,” said Kate Preiner, a Naturalist at Jay Cooke State Park.

Other events at Jay Cooke held today included a Wildflower walk, and a geology walk.
