The History Of The Beargrease

    The Beargrease Marathron  is a race that has substantial history with the Northshore. Michael Keyport, the Great Grandson of John Beargrease share with Fox21 his family history.

John Beargrease was a jack of all trades around the area. He was a fisher, fur trader and guide. When the weather turned brutal in the Northland, Beargrease stepped up to help with the mail delivery service. 

Bear grease hitched up a sled of dogs and delivered letters and news along with his travels.

For Michael Keyport remembering the origins of the race is very important as they head into race week.
