Residents Weigh In On Ore Dock’s Future
Residents in Ashland want to turn their historic ore dock back into the hub of community it once was.
FOX 21’s Zach Richie was at the first of two public meeting planned for this week.
Resident at the meeting Tuesday night said they want full access to the end of the dock to make it easier to swim and fish.
They stressed the need for more lighting, better access and parking by the landmark.
With the dock restored, the city hopes many tourists and residents will flock to the revitalized area.
“The city, the local community has to love it. They have to be the ones to make it a vibrant place and so it’s really important they own it and that it’s exactly what they want to try and see along the waterfront,” said Jason Stangland, the landscape architect for the project.
Other possible options for the dock include an area to hold concerts and community events.
A second public meeting will be held this Thursday.
Feedback from both sessions will be discussed — and work is tentatively scheduled to begin later this year.
