Non-Profit Gears Up for “More Cowbell” Fundraiser
Hundreds Expected at Grandma's For Rock 'n' Roll Event
A fundraiser that’s become a yearly tradition in Duluth hits the stage Thursday night.
“More Cowbell” – it’s a phrase made famous by a goofy skit on Saturday Night Live.
Now it’s an event at Grandma’s Sports Garden that draws hundreds of visitors each year.
Teams of performers try to out-cowbell each other with the help of a live band, and the audience votes on their favorite!
Proceeds for the event benefit the Northern Lights Foundation, a non-profit that helps the families of children with life-threatening illnesses
“It’s a big event. It’s a big fundraiser,” says Northern Lights Foundation president Ken Larson. “I would have to say we raised well over $100,000 with the even over seven years.”
Larson says he estimates that last year’s event raised nearly $15,000 alone.
The doors at Grandma’s open at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
FOX 21’s Dan Hanger will once again be co-hosting the event with morning radio personality Cathy Kates.
