The American Red Cross Is Facing a Critical Blood Shortage
They Are Calling for Blood Donations Nationally
DULUTH, Minn.- The American Red Cross is on an emergency need for blood. Nationally, the Red Cross aims to collect around 14,000 units of blood daily, but in May and June, the number of units donated dipped down.
So now, the American Red Cross is asking people to donate. Donations can be made through contacting the local Red Cross chapter and scheduling an appointment to donate. People who donate blood from now to August 31st will receive a $5 gift card to Target.
“Blood is medicine. And many people don’t realize that. You see it gory or scary but actually it’s medicine, and sometimes it’s the only medicine that helps,” said Amy Kranig, who works for the American Red Cross.
The Red Cross is looking for donors of all blood types.
