Minnesota Housing Announces Friday Deadline For ‘RentHelpMN’ Assistance
The assistance is for anyone with late rent payments because of COVID-19 related income issues.
DULUTH, Minn.- Two more days remain for renters to apply for state assistance — and prevent being evicted — as Minnesota Housing has announced the deadline for RentHelpMN is Friday at 9 p.m.
The assistance is for anyone with late rent payments because of COVID-19 related income issues.
It can cover rent for several months and even a month ahead.
Any applications started but not submitted by the deadline will be considered withdrawn and not processed.
Denied, withdrawn, or incomplete applications will not protect a renter from being evicted.
“The state legislature as they did their off-ramp for the moratorium put in there caveats that if people have applied for rent help mn that they cannot be evicted,” said Jill Keppers, Executive Director with the Duluth Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA).
“So it is really important that people have their applications in so they can get those payments,” she said.
According to a spokesperson with the City of Duluth, the HRA has let all tenants behind on rent know about funding and the resources they provide.
HRA also has separate CARES act funding specifically for those tenants.
Renters should call 2-1-1 to start the application while funds last.
