Damiano Center Hosts Community Connect Event for the Homeless
DULUTH, MN – Earlier today, the Damiano Center hosted a Community Connect event to provide services to those who are experiencing homelessness and other economic struggles. Those who came in were able to receive a haircut, shots, legal aid, ID cards, and a warm meal. This event is held twice a year with the other typically held in October.
“This is a great opportunity to try and reach people that aren’t in a stable, traditional housing situation. So we try and get the word out, and they’re very comfortable and know the services that the Damiano provides, and so it just extends that opportunity for outreach. In January, we do this event as a response to the Federal Government’s mandate to try and attempt to count folks that are living in unsheltered situations. We wanted to provide a place for people to come, rather than trying to meet people who might be living in their car, or living in a tent somewhere,” said Stacy Radosevich, senior planner for the St. Louis County Housing and Homelessness Unit.
When they aren’t holding these events, the Damiano Center continues to provide informational resources for those looking for food, shelter, and clothing.
