Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Girls Hockey Red Hot as Regular Season Winds Down
The Lumberjacks have been relying on their defense and junior goaltender Araya Kaminski, who has allowed just four goals during the team's 10 game win streak.
CLOQUET, Minn. – The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team has been on fire as of late. The Lumberjacks started the season 2-4 and now they have won 10 straight as the regular season winds down.
“We obviously have a lot of seniors and a lot of veteran players. The beginning of the season started out a little bit rocky. We had a couple of tough opponents. Everyone knew that we were just building for the end of the season so it’s really exciting to now be at the end of the season and all the adversity that we faced at the beginning, it’s all paying off now,” senior defender Tenley Stewart said.
“I think our goal is to always be playing our best hockey by February. We spend a lot of time working on our d-zone coverage to hopefully be competitive. I think starting in the back, we have a great goaltender that we feel like we can rely on. And a really nice solid d-core,” head coach Courtney Olin added.
And that great goaltender is junior Araya Kaminski who has allowed just four goals during the win streak. But she credits the players in front of her.
“It really helps me knowing that I can trust them because it keeps me motivated and I think the rest of the team and the forwards and everyone else. It’s definitely more fun than losing, but all the shuouts and stuff have been fun for us and just fun overall I guess,” Kaminski said.
