A Place for Fido is a Place for Dogs

Duluth Store is a Full Canine Outfitters

Inside the Fitger’s Complex in Downtown Duluth, you’ll find A Place for Fido, a store that started as an idea.

“My husband found a way to braid paracord – we found it online – so we decided to take it into the dog market,” explains store operator Jamie Parent. “There wasn’t a lot in the dog market for it, and it just kind of developed into a store.”

Parent and her husband opened the store in 2012, although their venture started online.
They moved to Duluth from California to move closer to family in Wisconsin.

“[We] just came with a business and an idea, and took off,” Parent says.

Their idea was to use paracord – a material used by outdoors enthusiasts for survival and utility – as a fashion accessory for dogs.

“We kind of took it one step further and decided to do it in the dog industry, and started making paracord collars, custom-made, and also paracord leashes that are all adjustable,” Parent explains.

And in the already dog-friendly Fitgers shopping complex, their business has thrived.
“it’s really convenient for people,” says Parent. “They really enjoy coming down here.”

What started as an idea for paracord collars and leashes has become a full on store for dogs that offers many of the same things you’d find at a hiking or camping store for people.

Dog owners are encouraged to bring their dogs into the store with them, to try on new fashions, and see if the store has items that would fit available.

“Our store is a canine outfitters,” states Jamie Parent. “We found that a lot of people like to bring their dogs in, try gear on, and we just saw that there was a need for outfitting dogs.”

It’s a need they’ve been serving for a few years now, and plan to continue for years to come.

A Place for Fido is open seven days a week in their location in Duluth’s Fitger’s Complex.
