SNOW SHOWERS EARLY BEFORE ARCTIC COLD SETTLES IN

Happy Friday, Northland! Some clearing overnight allowed the temperatures to drop more than expected thanks to more effective radiative cooling, with many seeing subzero readings around midnight. A front is bringing a band of light snow and has allowed for temperatures to warm into the teens, but we will cool down through the day as blustery northwest winds transport frigid air in. By the time many of us are getting off work, we will have temperatures in around and below zero degrees, especially for the Minnesota side of the Northland. Wind chills early Saturday will be in the -30s with highs struggling to get above zero, which is why we have Cold Weather Advisories in place through Sunday morning. This cold air will allow for lake effect snow to ramp up for the South Shore, where we can see up and over 6" in snow for the Upper Peninsula through the weekend. Once we get into next week, temperatures will rapidly rebound with highs on Tuesday pushing above freezing and even into the 40s. We will also see a more active weather pattern take hold, with chances for a wintery mix coming in during the middle of the coming week. With that, I hope everyone stays warm this weekend!
