Earned sick and safe time advocates express disappointment with Duluth City Council

The Duluth City Council voted to postpone hearing taskforce recomendations.

DULUTH, Minn. – Supporters of earned sick and safe time showed up at the Duluth City Council meeting to express disappointment in the council’s decision to postpone hearing recommendations from the earned sick and safe time task force. Last year, Duluth City Council voted to assemble a task force to investigate the possibility of passing an earned sick and safe time ordinance in Duluth.

That task force has come up with recommendations, and the council will need to hear those recommendations before they are able to draft an ordinance. However, the Duluth city council has voted to delay all of that until after the November elections.

“We’re showing up in support, to show the community really wants earned sick and safe time in Duluth,” supporter Ashley Northey said. “And we want the city council to put it on next week’s agenda.”

The council is now set to hear recommendations on sick and safe time for workers at the committee of the whole meeting December 4th.
