Christmas Charity Drive Gives Gifts to Third World Countries
DULUTH, Minn. —
One church in Duluth is spreading the love for the holiday season.
Mount of Olives Baptist Church is a collection site for “Operation Christmas Child.”
It’s a nationwide effort to send Christmas gifts to children in third world countries.
Central Collection Point Manager Jack Burklund says cardboard boxes can be stuffed with anything from toys and dolls to school supplies or everyday items like toothbrushes.
All the folks helping out at the church are volunteers that just want to spread Christmas cheer to those less fortunate.
“Anything to touch the heart of a young child,” Burklund said. “Nothing gives me more gratification in life than to see a smile on a kid’s face. I think that goes for any one of our volunteers that are here.”
Kits to build the boxes yourself can be found at Hobby Lobby or right there at the church.
Mount of Olives Baptist Church will continue to collect the boxes until 4:00pm on November 20.
They ask for a $9 donation to cover shipping and handling.
