14 Killed in San Bernardino Mass Shooting; 2 suspects dead, 1 in Custody
Police say there are at least 14 people dead and another 17 injured in a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.
Authorities say three people are in serious condition.
Police say two of the suspects were killed in a shootout after police surrounded an SUV that matched the one leaving the crime scene. The suspects threw pipe bombs out the window during a police chase. The duo were wearing assault-style clothing, and armed with assault rifles. A police officer was injured during the shootout.
A third person is in custody in connection to the shootings.
San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan says a motive is not yet clear, but that shooters were “on a mission” and “came in with a purpose.”
Police aren’t going as far as calling it a “terrorist act”. They say there is not enough information.
The shooting took place at the Inland Regional Center, a center that provides social services to people with developmental disabilities.
The President and CEO of the social services center says the gunmen opened fire in a conference area during a banquet for the Health Department.
Meanwhile, law enforcement says a sheriff’s bomb squad found a suspicious package on the second floor of the building.
The bomb squad was working to disarm it.
This is a developing story. We will have more details as they become available.
