Paper Mill in Duluth Looking to Expand
Verso Paper Mill Hoping to Get $1 Million Loan
DULUTH, Minn.-The city of Duluth is working on submitting an application for a $1 million loan to help along an expansion of the Verso paper mill in Duluth.
The mill is planning on having an expansion project worth an estimated $21 million so the plant can stay more competitive by being able to process scrap paper into pulp.
The city council is expected to vote on the loan application to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development at this Monday’s meeting.
“Without a conversion to allow the mill to make new profitable paper grades the mill will be a likely candidate for permanent closure,” said Duluth Mayor Emily Larson, to DEED.
