One Dead after Fireworks Accident in Mountain Iron

A 19-year-old Cook man is dead after a fireworks accident in Mountain Iron. 

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident in the 5600 block of Oriole Avenue around 9 a.m. Friday morning. 

Authorities say 19-year-old Trevor Reichel placed a mortar style firework on top of a hard hat he was wearing. 

Reichel was injured when the firework went off. 

He was transported to Essentia Health-Virginia and airlifted to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Duluth hospital, where he later died of his injuries. 

The accident remains under investigation.
