Mountain Iron kicks off deer season with Governor expo

The countdown to deer season continues with the Minnesota Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener in mountain iron.

The event allows people to show off their shooting skills and knowledge while celebrating the states deer hunting tradition.

“Hunting is something that’s part of our culture and part of heritage but we’re known for the outdoors,” John Edman, Director of Explore Minnesota.

Hunters dressed in their brightest orange gathered for the expo where plenty was going on.

Events inside included two air rifle ranges, a silent auction and the bad axe competion. and if that’s not enough for you, you can always sit back and watch.

Students showed off their archery skills, competing against their parents and coaches.

“It’s a great family event and a great sport for kids any gender any ability can shoot this sport,” Dan Vanviolette, head coach for archery team.

The program operates in schools across Minnesota to teach archery to kids as part of their physical education program and is supported by the DNR.
