The Minnesota Department of Transportation received some feedback Monday about the potential impact of construction work near historic properties in Carlton.

Neighbors were invited to an open house at Jay Cooke State Park to learn and ask questions about the Highway 210 project which includes pavement resurfacing and improved drainage.

MnDOT said contractors would like to cut back into the slope to prevent future washouts.

“So in those areas, where that proposed cutback would hit some of those portage remnants, we’re working closely with them to see if we can find another engineering solution that addresses the needs of the road, but still preserves the trail.,” said Kristen Zschomler, with MnDOT.

The section of highway that’s being worked on has been closed since 2012 when it was damaged by the Northland Flash Flood.
