American Spirit Free From Duluth Superior Harbor

DULUTH, Minn. – Coast Guard officials have confirmed the nearly 1,000 foot vessel floated free from the bottom of the harbor at roughly 10 p.m. last night.

This happened because the water level rose in the harbor after torrential rains over the weekend.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon the vessel ran aground in the Duluth Superior Harbor.

An examination of the interior and exterior of the hull is ongoing this morning.

The Duluth Ship Canal, Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge, and the Minnesota Slip Bridge are open and operating as normal.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
