UMD Hosts Cardboard Boat Races

The University of Minnesota-Duluth’s Homecoming Week continued with cardboard boat races Wednesday.

Students constructed boats out of cardboard, masking tape and duct tape.

The school hosts the event every year and the best part is students didn’t have to open their text books.

“This is pretty much purely for fun. We don’t have anything educational there’s no real stringent design constraints, it’s just for ships and giggles,” smiled Ben Hopwood, a UMD student.

Students got creative with some of the names of their boats calling them ‘I Don’t Give a Duck’ and ‘Piece of Ship.’
