New Animal Shelter Holds Grand Opening Ceremony

The new animal shelter in Superior is has a lot of tails wagging.

A ribbon cutting ceremony set off festivities at the new $2 million facility on Moccasin Mike Road in the city’s east end.

People were invited to tour the new 6,400 square foot facility, which has a much larger capacity than the old shelter.

Members of the Humane Society of Douglas County say they wanted the new shelter to be a place people really want to visit.

“You want your kids to be comfortable being in there and knowing and seeing that the animals are in a good place and taken care of until they find that forever home,” said HSDG president Michelle Porter.

The new shelter first opened its doors in September.

It’s open seven days a week.
