DEDA Proposes to Move Forward With Pastoret Terrace Building Demolition
DEDA Says the Building is Beyond Rehabilitation
DULUTH, Minn. – The Duluth Economic Development Authority is proposing to move forward with the demolition of the former Kozy Bar and Apartments located at 109 North 2nd Avenue East.
Due to the building being considered a contributing building to the Duluth Commercial Historic District an Environmental Assessment Worksheet is required before demolition can move ahead.
The EAW comment period will conclude on August 15 at 4:00 p.m. and the City of Duluth will accept written comments during the public review and comment period.
According to the EAW worksheet the building demolition could possibly begin in late 2018.
The Pastoret Terrace Building was built in the late 1880’s and has suffered two massive fires, one in 2010 and another in 2011.
DEDA says the building has deteriorated beyond the point of rehabilitation and believes demolition is the next step.
Eric Ringsred previously owned the building and lost it to the city. He’s filed a lawsuit saying the city hasn’t tried enough to keep the building standing.
Anyone who would like to submit a written comment during the EAW public review should submit their comments to Keith Hamre, City of Duluth, 411 West First Street, Duluth, Minnesota 55802. Electronic/email comments may be submitted to khamre@duluthmn.gov with Pastoret Terrace EAW in the subject line.
