Apples, apples and more apples! The 54th annual Bayfield Apple Festival is in the books, and the weather was amazing for thousands of visitors Sunday, as FOX 21’s Dan Hanger reports.

The only place where people get overly excited about apples is Bayfield.

“The weather, first of all, was fantastic,” said Sharon Locey, a volunteer with the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber estimates more than 50,000 apple fans flock to Bayfield from all over the Midwest and even the world.

“Oh my gosh, I met a couple from Waukesha Wisconsin. They’re coming back next year. They drove sever hours to come here for this,” Locey said.

“I think it’s real nice with the nature and it’s very pretty,” said Carl Luhr, of Sweden.

“Bayfield cool. The streets are up the hills. That’s a little different,” said Joost Rehder, of Germany.

The choices of apples are endless with even specialties called Wapples, which is a home-made waffle cone lined with cheese cake filling, warm apple slices, caramel drizzle and cinnamon.

Also on Sunday, thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Bayfield for the annual Grand Parade with dozens of floats and fantastic school bands.

Meanwhile, the local hotels were already booking up guests for next year’s Apple Festival.
