Steelers receiver DK Metcalf swipes at Lions fan leaning over railing in front row

Steelers receiver DK Metcalf swiped at a fan leaning over the railing in the front row at Ford Field during the second quarter of Pittsburgh’s 29-24 win over the Detroit Lions. Metcalf and the fan, wearing a black-and-blue shirt and a blue wig, were speaking to each other before the two-time Pro Bowler threw a right hand toward the man’s face. Metcalf did not appear to make much, if any contact. Although there wasn’t a penalty flag thrown on the field, the league will review the incident and Metcalf could face discipline.

X-rays negative for Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy after injuring his right hand

X-rays were negative on J.J. McCarthy's injured right hand, coach Kevin O'Connell said after the Minnesota Vikings quarterback left game at the New York Giants and did not return. O'Connell said McCarthy injured the hand at some point in the first half before running for a touchdown. It's unclear if McCarthy will be able to play in either of the final two games of the season. While the Vikings are eliminated from playoff contention, they'd like McCarthy to get some more valuable experience in his first year playing in the NFL.

Doctor's orders? ‘Belly laugh at least two to five days a week'

They say laughter is the best medicine. Michael Miller, a cardiologist and medical professor at the University of Pennsylvania, says they’re right. Laughter is an obvious stress reliever. But Miller says it’s even good for your heart. Madan Kataria — a physician in Mumbai and the founder of laughter yoga — agrees. Laughter yoga involves breathing exercises, light stretches, and silly movements and sounds that force you to laugh. Kataria suggests bringing laughter into your daily life, even at things that might not seem funny. Recently, he demonstrated what he calls "credit-card-bill laughter.” He held out his hand as if looking at a statement, and burst into a roiling, infectious laughter.

'Avatar: Fire and Ash' launches with $88M domestically, $345M worldwide

“Avatar: Fire and Ash” opened with $345 million in worldwide sales, according to studio estimates Sunday, notching the second-best global debut of the year and potentially putting James Cameron on course to set yet more blockbuster records. Sixteen years into the “Avatar” saga, Pandora is still abundant in box-office riches. “Fire and Ash,” the third film in Cameron’s science-fiction franchise, launched with $88 million domestically and $257 million internationally. The only film to open bigger in 2025 was “Zootopia 2.” But there was a tad less fanfare to this “Avatar” film. Sales were notably less than 2022's “Avatar: The Way of Water.”

Top Trump administration official defends partial release of Epstein files as Democrats cry foul

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is defending the Justice Department’s decision to release just a fraction of the Jeffrey Epstein files by the congressionally mandated deadline. Blanche is pledging that the Trump administration will eventually meet its obligation required by law. But he tells NBC's “Meet the Press” that his department was obligated to act with caution as it goes about releasing thousands of documents that can include sensitive information. Friday’s partial release of the Epstein files has led to a new crush of criticism from Democrats. They accuse the Trump administration of trying to hide information. Blanche calls the pushback disingenuous.

Muddy eruption at Yellowstone's Black Diamond Pool captured on video

A muddy eruption at Black Diamond Pool in Yellowstone National Park has been captured on camera. The video was recorded by the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory webcam Saturday morning. U.S. Geological Survey volcano experts shared it on social media. They said the same pool was also the site of a hydrothermal explosion in July 2024 that damaged a boardwalk and sent rocks and mud flying. Since then eruptions reaching up to 40 feet have occurred sporadically. New monitoring equipment installed this summer helps detect these events. Recent eruptions have mostly been audible and not visible because they happened either at night or when the camera was obscured by ice.

Netflix and Paramount are fighting over Warner Bros. Discovery. Here's the regulatory outlook

Warner Bros. Discovery is caught in a battle between Netflix and Paramount and chances are, it will be a long, bumpy regulatory road ahead. Netflix wants to buy Warner’s studio and streaming business for $72 billion, while Paramount has made a hostile $77.9 billion bid for a full takeover. Either deal could vastly reshape the media landscape, affecting movies and streaming platforms. The U.S. Justice Department and potentially other regulators worldwide will likely review the merger. But politics could also play a role under President Donald Trump. Critics argue either merger might harm consumers by controlling prices or limiting content.

These influencers are teaching Christianity online — and young people are listening

Christian influencers are reaching hundreds of thousands of young people online. They share podcasts and videos with biblical advice on tough questions that aren't always answered in Sunday sermons. Followers relate to millennial and Generation Z influencers more than the buttoned-up pastors of their parents' generation. And these influencers open up about past and present mistakes. Some have theological training and some don't. Some experts worry that they aren't equipped to teach such large audiences and threaten to replace church with podcasts, but many faithful are hopeful that this new group of Christian influencers will galvanize young people who are looking for meaning.

Trump's return brought stiff headwinds for clean energy. So why are advocates optimistic in 2026?

Dozens of energy developers, experts and politicians say there were some highs amid a lot of lows in a roller coaster year for clean energy as President Donald Trump worked to boost polluting fuels while stymying wind and solar. Surveyed by The Associated Press, many described 2025 as a turbulent and challenging one for clean energy, though there was progress as projects connected to the electric grid. They said clean energy will have to further ramp up in 2026 and beyond to meet a skyrocketing demand for electricity to power data centers and to lower the cost of Americans’ utility bills. Solar builder and operator Jorge Vargas says it has been a very tough year for clean energy.

Turning Point showcases the discord that Republicans like Vance will need to navigate in the future

Turning Point USA has endorsed Vice President JD Vance as the Republican nominee for the next presidential election. Erika Kirk leads the conservative youth organization and she drew cheers when she announced the endorsement at the group's convention in Phoenix. But the event also highlighted the challenges for Vance and other potential successors to President Donald Trump. The “Make America Great Again movement” is fracturing as Republicans consider a future without Trump, and there's no clear path to holding his coalition together as different factions jockey for influence. Trump hasn't officially chosen a successor.

Trump is leaning on son-in-law Jared Kushner for difficult diplomacy

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner has been drawn back into the foreign policy fold like he was during Trump's first term. It reflects a sense among Trump’s inner circle that Kushner complements special envoy Steve Witkoff’s negotiating style and can bridge seemingly intractable differences to close a deal. That's according to current and former administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. Kushner worked on negotiating the Abraham Accords that normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations in Trump's first term.

Sofia Goggia finally got the win her skiing this season deserved in a World Cup super-G on Sunday and Lindsey Vonn was third for the second straight day at French resort Val d'Isere. The two former Olympic downhill champions were split on a high-class podium by runner-up Alice Robinson who is already a two-time winner this season on the World Cup circuit. Goggia finished 0.15 seconds ahead of Robinson. The 41-year-old Vonn then hit a high speed touching 115 kph (71 mph) but the ideal racing line was elusive and she finished 0.36 behind Goggia.

Israel's Cabinet has approved a proposal for 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank. The far-right finance minister, Betzalel Smotrich, announced the decision on Sunday. The settlements include two that were previously evacuated during a 2005 disengagement plan. Smotrich, who supports settlement expansion, noted that this brings the total number of new settlements over the past two years to 69. According to Peace Now, an anti-settlement group, this approval increases the number of settlements by nearly 50% during the current government's tenure. Settlements are widely considered illegal under international law.

Thousands of mourners have gathered at Sydney’s Bondi Beach to mark a week since two gunmen targeted a Jewish festival, killing 15 people. The attack has spurred Australian governments to act against antisemitism and tighten gun controls. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and other dignitaries attended the commemoration, which drew over 10,000 people. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized Albanese, linking calls for a Palestinian state to rising antisemitism. A national Day of Reflection was declared, with images of victims projected and moments of silence observed. Security was tight, and new hate speech and gun laws are being debated.
