The topic of bullying is an emotionally charged and very serious issues not only across the country but here in the Northland and a new organization is helping reiterate the importance of anti bullying within the community.
The non-profit organization, “Buddies not Bullies“, has been created to help aid in the fight and provide the necessary resources to those being bullied.
The organization was developed March 5th in response to the growing number of people who are struggling with abuse and mistreatment.
Founders, Mindy Murtley and Christine Fabiny, met online via facebook where they shared the same passion and decided to kick start the non profit.
Both will help where the needs are by providing education and workshops.
Murtley is a registered nurse and says she sees the effects of bullying.
The two have received multiple messages from parents and students saying they are excited to have somewhere to go and get the necessary resources.
At the end of the day, Murtley hopes those leaving the building feel like they aren’t alone.
“That they have somebody that they can relate to and talk to whether it’s a friendship for life or something they come back and volunteer at. That needs to be heard.”
The two are heavily relying on support from the community.
A rummage sale is scheduled for April 17th to help with start up costs.
The organization is also working on bringing a 5K walk to the are but are still in the planning phases.
