Two vacant Duluth schools have been officially sold to a real estate developer, according to district officials.

The schools are Rockridge and Morgan Park.

ISD 709 and developer Aaron Scheiger announced Friday the purchase agreement for the sale of the sites that total 28 acres.

The terms of the agreement include a $1,200,000 sale price with a closing date before the end of June.

Morgan Park has been vacant since 2012 and Rockridge since 2011.

Below is part of a press release sent out by the School District:

“We are very pleased Aaron and his team have offered to purchase both of these remaining, unused school buildings and related property,” said Kerry Leider, Property and Risk Manager for ISD 709.

According to Leider, these are the last excess school buildings from the district’s Long Range Facilities Plan not under a purchase agreement.

Leider said selling the property will save the District the ongoing cost of utilities, insurance, maintenance and security, and avoid direct involvement to upgrade public road and utility infrastructure necessary to sell the property in parcels.
