A long time leader at the College of St. Scholastic has announced his retirement.
In 1 year, CSS will be welcoming in new leadership as Larry Goodwin made his official announcement Wednesday afternoon.
After 18 years, Goodwin has accomplished an immense amount.
Enrollment has more than doubled, from 2,040 in 1998 to 4,325 with major growth in graduate, online and non-traditional adult student markets.
The number of academic programs has risen from 49 in 1998 to 64 currently.
Study abroad programs rose from 3 in 1998 to 10 presently.
Goodwin has also worked to increase diversity on campus.
St. Scholastica’s budget has more than doubled, from $34 million in 1998 to $73 million today.
But, he’s not done yet.
Goodwin still has a lot he wants to get done in his last year.
“I want us to work to become a more diverse and inclusive community and I want us to get healthcare programming in Duluth. We’re also investigating to get some programming in the Phoenix, Arizona area,” said Goodwin.
Next June, Goodwin will turn 70 years old and is excited to start his new adventure with his wife by spending time traveling, reading and writing.
The intense, national search for someone to fill his shoes has already started.
The College’s Board of Trustees and a National Consulting Firm will be making the final decision.
Goodwin is the longest serving president in what will then be the 104 year history of the College.
