Buckle up or pay the fine!

That’s the message from local law enforcement during the “Click it or Ticket” campaign.

Agencies from Wisconsin and Minnesota featured their rollover simulator to show what happens to a person who is un-belted.

With Memorial Day weekend approaching, law enforcement officers across Minnesota and Wisconsin are ramping up their patrols to keep the roads safe.

“Even with the airbags deploying, you have to have a seat belt on because they work with the seat belt,” said Sgt. Neil Dickenson with the Minnesota State Patrol.

In Minnesota, nearly 40 people have died in 2015 from not wearing a seat belt.

“Majority of the fatalities that are happening in the state of Minnesota, 70% are outside of the Twin Cities Area.  So, we are looking at those numbers and we are trying to get them to zero.  I know that’s a lofty goal but we want to have zero fatalities,” said Dickenson.

The campaign kicked off Monday, May 18th and runs through the end of the month.
