Travel Safely With Pets Memorial Day Weekend

Safety Tips for Traveling Pets

This weekend, millions of people are expected to be on the road — and doctors at the Duluth Veterinary Hospital are offering tips to keep your furry friends safe if they are hitting the road with you.

Never leave your pet unattended in a car.

“Just be smart.  We have all heard of dogs being left in cars.  So, just don’t do it,”said veterinarian Lisa Juten.

Make sure you pack plenty of food, and don’t travel with the windows cracked open.

“Having the windows down in the car poses a threat to their eyes with having them in the wind like that.  It’s also a risk if they see something that would make them jump out of the car,” said Juten.

Doctors also suggest to look for a vet nearby in case of emergency.
