Summers in the Northland mean long days, outdoor activities, and lots of sun.
Because of that sunscreen is a necessity for preventing the premature aging of skin and reducing chances of developing skin cancer.
Proper use of sunscreen isn’t just about choosing the right Sun Protection Factor (SPF).
It’s also about applying the right amount and reapplying every two hours.
According to Essentia Health Esthetician Marne Guthrie, sunscreen should be SPF 30 or higher and applied 30 minutes before prolonged sun exposure.
Wearers should also use a teaspoon to a tablespoon for their face and an ounce and a half to two ounces for their body.
Guthrie added that sunscreen should also be reapplied every two hours while in the sun for best results.
