After what city administrators are calling a few “hiccups,” the Spirit Mountain Pipeline Project is back on track.
Construction of the pipeline was delayed due to disagreements over railroad easments granted in the 1980’s.
Duluth Chief Administive Officer David Montgomery said Thursday that when it was noticed the easments were no longer valid construction was halted until proper permits could be put in place.
Montgomery said railroad officials were responsive to all requests from the city and that construction resumed as soon as the proper permits were granted.
Spirit Mountain is hoping the pipeline will be completed in October.
The pipeline will bring water to Spirit Mountain’s snow machines, directly from the St. Louis River reducing the burden on the city’s water supply.
The pipeline will also allow melting snow to drain back into the river preventing negative runoff effects.
