Wednesday, leaders with the Sky Harbor Airport in Duluth received a grant for a maintenance project that has been on their to–do list for the past five years.

They got $111,285 to replace the entrance gate that starts at the terminal and goes to the bay.

The new gate will have an electrical door, which airport employees tell FOX 21 will be much easier to maintain during heavy snowfall.

Plus, they add the new fence has safety benefits.

“There’s a lot more traffic down here than people would think, we also have businesses that are located here, so we do have a lot of traffic that goes back and forth,” explained Natalie Peterson with the Duluth Airport Authority.

Ninety percent of the funds came from the FAA, five percent came from Minnesota, and five percent was local.
