Hundreds came out for an evening of fun at the Science Spooktacular held at Congdon Park Elementary Friday evening.

In the tradition of Halloween UMD students and faculty presented wacky and eerie science experiments, creepy critters and amazing display of scientific wonder.

Event organizers said it’s incredibly important to get kid engaged in science at a young age.

“Maybe the cure for cancer could be in one of these children’s heads and our job is to ignite that spark at a young age,” said Jasmin Mellesmoen a member of the UMD chemistry club.

District employees also debut new locally sourced recipes at the event to highlight national farm to school month.

Kids and their families were given a chance to taste-test some of the foods and help choose new menu items
