A celebration Friday afternoon honored the late U.S. Representative James Oberstar.
A terminal at Duluth International Airport is now named in his memory, complete with a signage and a statue, which were unveiled at a ceremony.
The honor is fitting as Oberstar played such a major role in transportation efforts throughout the state.
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar was one of many politicians paying tribute to him at the event.
“You see his fingerprints all over Northern Minnesota. Whether it is of the Paul Bunyan Trail or the roads, or major highways when you come into Duluth or the work or the work that he has done on these majestic bike trails all along Lake Superior,” said U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar.
Oberstar passed away in May of 2014.
The son of an iron miner from Chisholm, Oberstar served 36-years.
