Millions of Veterans are being saluted November 11th for their valiant efforts in serving our country.

The community of Duluth thanked those who protected our country with a parade and ceremony at the DECC.

The red, white and blue led the parade and old-time war vehicles carrying those who proudly fought followed in line.

A handful of people lined the street to say, “Thanks!”

“This is something we do every year. It’s definitely a lot of fun,” said a military wife Cristy House.

Cristy’s husband, Tim, is active duty serving in the Army National Guard as an E-6 Staff Sergeant.

“It’s just a great chance for us to show support for our Veterans of the past and Veterans of today,” said Tim House.

The family of five donned the stars and stripes to teach the youngsters a thing or two about America’s history.

“For them to understand what it means to appreciate Veterans,” said House.

Five armed service branches were recognized at a ceremony at the DECC.

For Vietnam Veteran Gene Johnson the special day is about much more than just himself.

“Veterans Day to me is to get out and to honor especially my father. He was in World War 2 and to honor all other Veterans from there on,” said Johnson.

The holiday was first set aside 97-years ago on the anniversary of World War 1.

Originally called Armistice Day it was later changed to Veterans Day as a way to encompass all who served.

The first Veterans parade in Duluth was held in 2006, making next year’s parade a decade in the making.
