This morning Sgt. Martin Egnash and SSgt. Ryan Fife stopped by FOX Sunrise to talk about recruitment and community projects.
Sgt. Martin Egnash is the Marketing and Public Affairs Director for the recruiting station in the Twin Cities and SSgt. Ryan Fife is a recruiter in Duluth.
One program they talked about is Toys for Tots which was started by the Marine Corps in 1947.
Sgt. Egnash and SSgt. Fife tell FOX 21 Toys for Tots is a great way to be involved and benefit our community.
“One of the big benefits is to see those individuals who aren’t privileged enough to otherwise have some things during Christmas time, to really reach out to the community and really be a part of something. So, it’s really a big positive impact when you can see that you’re doing something for someone who really deserves it,” explained SSgt. Fife.
The USMC also puts on a program called Educator’s Workshop.
The Marine Corps Recruiting Station Twin Cities brings about 30 educators to San Diego for one week to get a little taste of being in the Marine Corps.
Sgt. Egnash believes this is important for educators to experience, “Every year we take many high school students and turn them into Marines and we want them to see what that means.”
Teachers from all over the state can apply.
You can go to your local recruiter office to get an application. Selections are made in January.
If you’re interested in joining the USMC, or learning more about it, SSgt. Fife says you should check out your local recruiting office, go to marines.com, or go to their Facebook page.
