The rate plan is being made possible after a new Minnesota law was put in place.

The new rate plan gives a discounted rate to large industrial customers such as taconite mines and forest product industries. This keeps the company’s electric rates competitive and the regional economy healthy.

As for Minnesota power’s other customers they will see a new monthly charge on their electric bill.

Business and commercial customers that do not qualify will see a flat monthly charge of $11.45 per electric service agreement. For residential customers the increase will be based on the amount of energy used.
